Private School Fees in Bahrain 2026: Full Cost Guide

Private School Fees in Bahrain 2026: What You’ll Actually Pay

School fees in Bahrain range from BHD 1,100 to over BHD 9,000 per year depending on the school and year group, and that is before registration fees, uniforms, exam costs, and transport are factored in. This guide breaks down verified 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 tuition for Bahrain’s main private schools, tier by tier, with figures drawn directly from each school’s published fee schedule.

Every table below is sourced from the school’s own website, with a link to the fee page. Where a school does not publish fees openly, that is noted too.

Most Bahrain private schools raised fees between 5% and 10% for 2025/2026. Where possible, the most current year’s figures are shown and the year is noted. Always verify the current fee schedule directly with the school’s admissions office before making a decision.

The Range Is Wider Than Most Parents Expect

Bahrain’s private school market covers a broad price band. Within the same curriculum, two schools can differ by 5x in annual tuition. Within the British curriculum alone, fees at primary level range from under BHD 1,600 to over BHD 5,000 per year. The structure at primary level breaks into three tiers:

Tier Annual Tuition (Primary) School Types What You Get
Budget BHD 1,100 – 2,600 British curriculum community schools; Indian CBSE Licensed, BQA-inspected; lower fees do not automatically mean lower quality
Mid-range BHD 2,600 – 4,500 Established British, American, and IB schools Good facilities, BQA-rated, solid IGCSE and IB outcomes
Premium BHD 4,500 – 9,100+ Long-established British and IB schools Outstanding BQA ratings, university counselling, strong exam results

These ranges are for primary-level tuition. Senior school fees especially at IGCSE (Years 10/11) and sixth form (Years 12/13) are significantly higher at almost every school. See the fee progression section below.

Fee Progression: The Number That Changes Everything

Every school charges more as children advance through year groups. At BSB, fees run from BHD 3,342 at Nursery to BHD 9,081 at Year 13 — nearly 3x over a full school career. At Nadeen, Nursery starts at BHD 3,075 and Year 12/13 reaches BHD 7,701. Plan for what a school costs at Year 13, not at Year 1 entry.

  • Foundation / Nursery / KG: lowest point — the figure most schools feature in marketing
  • Primary (Years 1–6): base tuition in most published schedules
  • Lower Secondary (Years 7–9): typically 15–30% above primary at the same school
  • IGCSE years (Years 10–11): 30–50% above primary
  • Sixth Form / A-Level (Years 12–13): 50–80% above primary entry level

Hidden Costs: What Gets Added on Top

Tuition is the starting point, not the total. A school quoting BHD 3,000 per year can reach BHD 4,500 to 5,000 all-in once registration, books, transport, and activities are included. In exam years, add board exam fees on top.

Cost Item When Typical Range What to Know
Registration / enrolment fee One-off BHD 33 – 1,250 ARKIS: BD 150 registration + BD 33 entry exam. Al Hekma: BD 35–45 application + BD 250 seat reservation. BSB: BD 50 application + BD 100–250 registration. Nadeen: BD 100 application + BD 225 place-holding (both non-refundable). St Christopher’s: BD 100 application + BD 1,250 registration = BD 1,350 total, non-refundable.
Assessment / entrance test fee One-off BHD 25 – 100 ARKIS: BD 33 entry exam. Nadeen: BD 25 per additional assessment (included in BD 100 application fee for preliminary assessment). St Christopher’s: included in application fee. IKNS: entrance exam required; fee not published publicly.
Refundable enrolment deposit One-off (returned on exit) ~1 month’s tuition Held until the child leaves. Returned in full, but is cash out the door upfront on top of non-refundable entry fees.
Books and stationery Annual BHD 100 – 300 Al Hekma: included in tuition. ARKIS: included via resource fee. Most other schools: purchased separately by parents.
Uniform Annual (children grow) BHD 100 – 250 Al Hekma: both sets included. Most schools: purchased separately. Budget for replacements each year as children grow.
School transport (bus) Annual BHD 400 – 700 BSB: bus service available. ARKIS and St Christopher’s: no transport provided. Cost depends on distance from school.
Activities and school trips Annual BHD 100 – 500+ Day trips, residentials, and clubs — highly variable. Nadeen confirms optional fees include school trips, international trips, after-school activities with external providers, instrumental lessons, and GCSE/A-Level exam entries.
Learning support / EAL Annual (if required) BHD 0 – 7,800 Nadeen publishes four support levels: Wave 1 free, Wave 2 BD 1,371/yr, Wave 3 BD 1,890/yr, Thrive Centre BD 2,742/yr. Additional shadow support from BD 390/yr (2 sessions/week) to BD 7,800/yr (full-time). Other schools charge separately — always ask upfront.
Board exam fees (IGCSE / A-Level / IB) Per exam session (Years 10–13) BHD 300 – 1,500+ ARKIS includes BD 300 IGCSE/IB fee in its published year-group totals. St Christopher’s and BSB bill separately. Budget in Years 10, 11, 12, and 13.
Annual re-enrolment deposit Each year BHD 150 – 400 Secures the child’s place for the following year; credited against fees on confirmation.
EdTech fee Annual BHD 40 BSB charges BD 40/year for Years 3–13. Most schools bundle this into tuition.

What the Published Figures Don’t Tell You

Fee data can be out of date

Many school websites were still showing 2024/2025 fees as of mid-2026, with no update flag. Most Bahrain schools raised fees 5–10% for 2025/2026. If a published figure looks lower than others in the same tier, check the source date.

Sibling discounts vary — and are rarely advertised

Nadeen: 5% off tuition for the second sibling, 10% off for the third and beyond. Al Hekma: 10% off for a third enrolled child, 15% off for a fourth or more. BSB: 10% off for the third enrolled child, 25% for the fourth and fifth. St Christopher’s: no sibling discounts offered. In all cases, discounts are almost never mentioned in marketing materials — ask admissions directly.

Waitlists are longer than most families expect

IKNS is waitlist-only for KG2 through Grade 11 for 2026/27. BSB, St Christopher’s, and Nadeen all have significant waitlists for Year 1 and Year 7. Starting a search in February or March for September entry is already late at the popular schools. Families relocating to Bahrain should start the process six to twelve months in advance, ideally before arriving.

The cheapest good school may not be near where you live

Expat families tend to cluster in Seef, Adliya, Saar, Budaiya, and Amwaj. Several of the better-value schools are further out. If the commute adds BHD 400–700 in annual bus costs, the effective fee gap narrows considerably. Model total cost, not just tuition.

Bahrain School Fees vs the UAE

  • A comparable mid-range British curriculum school in Dubai typically costs 50–80% more at primary level than equivalent provision in Bahrain
  • Dubai’s premium British schools operate significantly above Bahrain’s premium tier at both primary and secondary level
  • Dubai’s KHDA publishes per-school fee caps and a standardised fee fact sheet; Bahrain’s Ministry of Education regulates fee increases and approves each school’s schedule, but does not publish equivalent public documentation
