Oman: Over 2,000 expat teachers replaced with Omani citizens

More than 2,000 expat teachers have been replaced with Omani job seekers as the Omanisation drive gathers steam in the teaching profession, the Ministry of Labour announced yesterday.

According to a statement, the ministry said it has implemented a plan to replace 2,469 expat teachers with Omanis during the first phase, 1,455 male teachers and 1,014 females.

The plan aimed to replace expats with Omanis across a number of disciplines including Islamic education, Arabic language, French language, life skills, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, geography, history, information technology, plastic arts, musical skills, school sport, first field, second field, special education, special education (science), special education (Islamic education), special education (Arabic language), special education (English language), special education (mathematics).

The ministry said it is cooperating with six government entities, including the Ministry of Education, to provide 4,000 job opportunities for Omani job seekers in the public sector this year whereas the Ministry of Education will offer 2,469 jobs and Ministry of Health will provide 830 jobs.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Innovation said it will offer 115 jobs while 65 jobs will be made available in the municipal sector. The University of Technology and Applied Sciences also said it will offer 92 jobs.
