Bahrain Education Awards: Celebrating Innovation and Excellence in the Kingdom

schoolcover

Gulf Insider’s Bahrain Education Awards has returned for the fourth time. This first-of-its-kind annual initiative celebrates remarkable stories of innovation across the Kingdom’s education space.

The Awards, under the umbrella of Gulf Insider’s Education_BH: Innovation and Excellence campaign, recognise institutions and educators who are pushing boundaries, experimenting with new approaches, and putting the needs of learners at the centre of everything they do.

Since its first instalment in 2022, the campaign has created a vital platform where stakeholders in the education space can connect, learn, and share best practices whilst receiving recognition for their relentless efforts.

How it works:

  • All schools, universities, and training institutes in Bahrain are welcome to share one innovation by filling out this form.
  • Institutions provide detailed accounts of their innovation – covering background, planning, challenges, and results.
  • Gulf Insider’s Editorial Team reviews every innovation for clarity and compiles every institution’s innovation into an annual Education Guide published in January.
  • Gulf Insider’s Bahrain Education Awards will bring together the community to celebrate and felicitate all the innovations.

The initiative serves as a meeting ground for educators to exchange ideas and showcase innovations, whilst helping parents and teachers stay informed about the exciting developments happening across the Kingdom’s education landscape.

The initiative recognises that true educational innovation isn’t just about adopting the latest technology or following the newest pedagogical trend. It’s about understanding that each learner is unique, that context matters enormously, and that the best education prepares people not just for the jobs of today, but for challenges we can’t yet imagine.

Frequently asked: What counts as Educational Innovation?

The main idea behind this initiative is to highlight efforts that improve students’ educational experiences, whether directly or indirectly. Innovation in education has no limits. Schools are incorporating project-based learning, community initiatives and robust internship facilities that connect classroom concepts to real-world challenges. The investment of time and effort in teachers’ capacity building is going a long way in improving classroom engagement at all grade levels.

Finding new ways to engage with parents and the community is promising a shift towards collective responsibility for every child’s educational experience. Extra-curricular activities and emotional well-being initiatives are helping schools develop strong, kind, creative problem solvers.

Universities are introducing programs that prepare students for dynamic professions. Centres of Excellence, cutting-edge laboratories, international exposure through exchange programs, construction of new facilities and campuses are some of the innovations we’re seeing in the higher educational space.

To bridge the gap between formal education systems and the workplace arena, vocational training institutes have launched groundbreaking courses. The most successful institutions are those that view themselves not as gatekeepers of knowledge, but as facilitators of lifelong learning journeys.

Why does recognising educational innovation matter?

Education has never been a static field, but the pace of change we’re witnessing today is unprecedented. From primary schools and universities to vocational training academies, learners are encountering radically different approaches to knowledge acquisition and skill development.

When smart whiteboards began replacing traditional blackboards, classrooms became more dynamic, with teachers able to pull up videos, interactive maps, and real-time data. It marked a crucial shift in how educators viewed the relationship between technology and pedagogy.

The global pandemic then began to accelerate this transformation. When COVID-19 forced institutions worldwide to close their doors, educators had no choice but to rapidly adapt. What emerged wasn’t simply a digital version of traditional teaching; it was an entirely new understanding of how learning happens.

Education_BH: Innovation & Excellence reflects a crucial shift in educational priorities. While academic achievement remains important, the focus has expanded to developing critical thinking skills, building emotional intelligence, fostering creativity and innovation, and supporting individual learning needs.

  • Developing critical thinking skills
  • Building emotional intelligence
  • Fostering creativity and innovation
  • Preparing students for global citizenship
